GWR Saint and TPO: BR Add-on Pack

Just before a short summer break we're going to leave you with some work in progress images of an add-on pack that we expect to release to the Train Simulator Marketplace shortly after the release of the GWR Saint and TPO DLC.

It will include the following:

GWR 2900 Saint class in BR Lined Green - Square and Curved frame variants

GWR 2900 Saint class in BR Lined Black - Square and Curved frame variants

Travelling Post Office sorting van and baggage van (with working exchange equipment) in BR Maroon livery

Travelling Post Office sorting van and baggage van (with working exchange equipment) in Mail red livery

And although they never ran in this livery with the Saint we wanted to provide BR blue versions of the TPO coaches for those who favour a later era.

So that completes everything we have to show for the upcoming GWR Saint & TPO DLC and BR liveries add-on. Obviously loaded with the usual "beyond our control" caveats we hope the GWR Saint & TPO will be released before the end of August.

GWR Saint and TPO: Contents

The GWR Saint and TPO are currently in testing and we hope they will be released on Steam within the next few weeks.
Below is the feature list from the manual:

GWR Travelling Post Office

We are very excited after many years of testing and experimentation that the GWR Saint we will be releasing through Steam will be coming with a fully working Travelling Post Office exchange system.

(Important: Dovetail Games are also publishing a GWR Star very soon and we've had a lot of people confusing the Star with our Saint and asking us about it. The Star is NOT by us and will not come with the working TPO, Victory Works advanced features, all named class members, etc.)

GWR Saint Cab and TPO Coach

We've got quite a few pictures today so we'll mostly let them speak for themselves.
First off, inside the GWR 2900 cab..

The gauge glass is quite hard to see from the side views that look out of the

front windows so we've added a view just for that and of course the 3D

firebox view is available as with all of our locos since the Bullied Q1.

And we are now very pleased to show the GWR Travelling Post Office coach in game as well.

As you can see we will be including a sorting coach along with the baggage coach which is fitted with the exchange apparatus. These come in 3 GWR liveries; 1926-34, 1934-42 and 1924-47 and have selectable coach codes and numbers.
They have external views at the front and rear of the baggage coach and the exchange apparatus is fully functional when used with the line side exchange apparatus that will also be included.

Also included are line side markers that were used to alert the TPO staff that the bags and net should be extended and also exchange apparatus warning boards and a hut which was often built near the apparatus.

The Saint and TPO will come with 4 scenarios for the Riviera Line in the Fifties : Exeter to Kingswear route. The first is an introduction to the TPO and all of them feature some use of the exchange apparatus.
Our plan is to also create a Marketplace add-on which will feature the Saint in BR livery and also the TPO in BR maroon and the much requested BR blue livery.

Finally for the technically minded, the TPO apparatus can be placed in any scenario and configured to receive 0 to 4 mail bags and allow collection of 0 to 3 mail bags. It is placed with 4 track links (like a signal) and aligned with the expected player consist using markers on the TPO coach and the line side apparatus. There is also a non-working version with the net retracted and the standards empty and facing the rear which can be placed as static scenery. The loco is an integral part of the operation and is therefore required to have some scripting and controls to tell the coach where the apparatus is and we have created a simple add-on script and set of controls that can be added to any TS loco to make it fully compatible with the TPO exchange. You can use ANY TS stock in the consist and the coach will still work correctly if the leading loco is set up for it. We've already created a small .rwp file (just 182k) which adds this compatibility to all of the tender locos that come with the Exeter Kingswear 1950's route which we will distribute for free when the time comes.
The manual will include a full explanation of how to set up the apparatus to perform the exchanges in your own scenarios.

GWR Saint: In game!

As promised it's time to see the GWR Saint all textured up and in Train Simulator.
We're really pleased with how this loco has turned out, bringing together everything we've learnt to date with all the best features from the Peppercorn K1 and USATC S160.

The GWR Saint and TPO DLC will be coming with both square and curved frame variants of the 2900 class and in liveries for 4 GWR eras: 1905-26, 1926-34, 1934-42 and 1924-47.
All 74 members of the class (Scotts, Ladies, Saints, Courts) are included along with 1 of the 3 prototypes, "Albion".
The 3500 gallon tender is available in riveted and smooth sided styles with 6 different livery options including 2 non-express versions (although not officially used on express services sometimes tenders were provided using "whatever we've got available"). The tender is fully compatible with water troughs.
Red or White lamps are optional based on the era, as well as selections for any reporting code you choose, outside or inside steam pipes, headboards (Cornish Riviera, Torbay Express and Mayflower), and speedometer.
All of our usual advanced features are fitted including steam chest simulation, realistic injectors, 3D firebox, head out views for the cab (driver's AND fireman's), animated controls on the external model and we've even come up with a great new stoking system - no longer will you be forced to trickle feed coal into the firebox but you can put it in in shovelfuls, all timed perfectly with the cab sounds!

So without further comment, the 2900 "Saint" class..

In addition to all of the 2900 class the DLC will also include the working GWR TPO baggage coach and sorting coach (in 3 GWR  liveries) and line side apparatus (including marker boards, huts, etc) and repaints of the Collett "Sunshine" coaches from the Exeter-Kingswear route in two GWR liveries, 1934-42 and 1942-47.

Currently we expect to include 4 scenarios for the Exeter-Kingswear 1950's route based around the Great Western TPO service.

So that's everything as it stands at the moment. Next week we expect to have some in-game pictures of the TPO coaches and soon after we will make some videos to show them in operation.
